
A national enquiry has been launched to investigate whether job losses in the coal industry have been fully replaced and whether these jobs offer adequate pay and opportunities.
A devolution agreement that would grant more power to Nottinghamshire councils has also been mentioned as something that could improve long-term opportunities for people living in former coalfield areas.
Since then, studies have shown that people in these former mining areas have a more difficult time finding good jobs than people in other parts of the country.
