
The diamond business Botswana Diamonds plans to conduct additional ground geophysics on four anomalies that were found to be adjacent to its KX36 project in Botswana’s Kalahari.
Since kimberlites typically occur in clusters rather than in isolation, it is believed that there may be undiscovered buried kimberlites in the area around KX36. They were recognized by the heavy mineral train that flowed from KX36.
The 3.5 hectare kimberlite pipe in the Kalahari belongs to the KX36 project.
17.9 million tonnes at 35 carats per hundred tonnes (cpht) and 6.7 million tonnes at 36 cpht are the pipe’s resource counts.
With an estimated diamond value of up to $107 per carat, the grade range in the model is 57 to 76 carats.
Kimberlites are found in clusters; as of right now, only KX36 has been found in this specific Kalahari kimberlite field, meaning there should be more kimberlites out there that are just waiting to be found. According to chair John Teeling, “This work is part of our emerging Kalahari strategy, which could lead to this area being a major producer of diamonds.”
After thorough reprocessing of the aeromagnetic data, two anomalies found in PL224/2007 and two more found in PL169/2019 will be investigated using gravity and time domain electromagnetic methods.
Before planning a drill program, the gravity and time domain electromagnetic approach will be used to further verify the shapes and sizes of the targets based on the slight aeromagnetic anomalies shown by ground magnetics.
It emphasizes that all of the targets are within a 6-kilometer radius of the company’s KX36 kimberlite pipe and could represent significant additions to the current resources.
“Botswana Diamonds states that the new kimberlite targets have great potential to upgrade the existing resources in the area, including at the Ghaghoo mine, which is only 60 km away from the KX36 project and is currently under care and maintenance.”
