Melbourne, Australia — In a significant move to strengthen its position in the battery recycling industry, Lithium Australia’s subsidiary, Envirostream, has inked a three-year mixed metal dust (MMD) off-take agreement with South Korean battery recycler SungEel HiTech. This agreement marks a major milestone in the companies’ ongoing partnership, which began in 2020.
Under the terms of the agreement, SungEel HiTech will purchase at least 60% of Lithium Australia’s annual MMD production, ensuring a steady and reliable market for recycled materials. This deal was signed two weeks before schedule, highlighting the strong commitment and synergy between the two companies.
“SungEel has been a longstanding customer, and we are excited to expand our strong commercial relationship,” said Simon Linge, Managing Director and CEO of Lithium Australia. “The signing of this MMD off-take agreement represents a core component of our recycling growth strategy, given its synergistic value with the company’s rapidly growing large-format lithium-ion battery collection volumes and MMD production.”

Expansion and Future Prospects
The agreement, effective July 1, 2024, is expected to significantly boost Envirostream’s production volumes. Additionally, the strong market demand for MMD supports an anticipated increase in future production, positioning Envirostream for robust growth.
Lithium Australia and SungEel HiTech have also begun discussions on a joint development agreement to upgrade recycling equipment and expand Envirostream’s processing capacity. This collaboration, which is expected to be finalized within the year, will focus on enhancing the efficiency and output of recycling operations.
Building Momentum with Key Partnerships
Envirostream’s momentum is further underscored by its recent exclusive agreement with Volvo Group Australia’s bus division to recycle end-of-life lithium-ion batteries from its electric and hybrid bus fleet. This partnership complements existing recycling agreements with Hyundai Glovis and LG Energy Solution, solidifying Envirostream’s leadership in the battery recycling market.
