With germanium prices hovering around US$6,000 per kilogram, the potential to transform waste streams into high-value revenue lines represents a strategic pivot for the 100-year-old mining district.
The announcement, released on July 7, 2026, details property-wide reconnaissance that identifies elevated germanium across the Balmat-Edwards zinc system. For operators and investors, the “jackpot” isn’t just the discovery itself, but the discovery’s location within a Tier-1 jurisdiction and its synergy with existing processing infrastructure.
District-Wide Enrichment: The Data Breakdown
Titan’s reconnaissance program sampled six underground ore bodies and two historic tailings facilities, confirming that germanium is a system-wide characteristic rather than a localized anomaly. This distinction is critical; it suggests that the entire mineralizing event at ESM was rich in high-tech minor metals, allowing for large-scale planning rather than “nuggety” or unpredictable extraction.
The reported grades are substantial for a by-product. In the underground zones, samples from Mud Pond Main reached as high as 85.6 ppm (g/t), while the New Fold zone showed values up to 49.7 ppm. To put this in perspective, many primary germanium deposits globally operate at comparable or only slightly higher grades, but without the benefit of a primary zinc credit.

Titan estimates approximately 18.8 million short tons in the Number 4 tailings and 5.0 million short tons in the Edwards tailings. Assay results from these facilities range between 18.1 ppm and 44.7 ppm. Why $6,000/kg? The AI and Geopolitical Nexus
The valuation of germanium has surged due to its irreplaceable role in high-speed semiconductors, fiber-optic systems, and infrared defense optics. However, the current price floor is being built by the “AI Age.” Germanium-silicon (SiGe) transistors are vital for the high-frequency chips that power AI data centers and 6G telecommunications.
As the U.S. looks to de-risk its supply chains, Titan’s position in New York becomes a geopolitical asset. Currently, the U.S. imports nearly all its germanium, largely from China: which has already implemented restrictive export controls. Initial plant sampling revealed that while plant feed contains ~21 g/t Ge, the pre-float stream is enriched to ~77 g/t. This indicates that the germanium is naturally concentrating in certain parts of the mill circuit today, even though it isn’t being recovered.

If Titan and Teck can successfully integrate a recovery circuit, the project could generate roughly $78 million in incremental annual revenue with no additional mining required.
