Patriot Critical Minerals has confirmed the largest tungsten resource, which could reshape America’s critical-mineral landscape. The Nevada-based explorer has filed a Technical Report Summary (TRS) under U.S. SEC Regulation S-K 1300 for its 100 %-owned MEGA Tungsten Project in Elko County, Nevada — defining 21.8 million short tons at 0.18 % WO₃, or approximately 78.7 million lb of contained tungsten trioxide.
Prepared by SRK Consulting (U.S.) Inc., the filing establishes the largest tungsten resource ever reported under modern SEC standards, cementing MEGA’s position at the forefront of America’s tungsten resurgence.
Tungsten Resource Supply Chain Pressure and Policy Shifts
Tungsten’s strategic importance is difficult to overstate. The U.S. Geological Survey lists it among 50 critical minerals essential for defense, aerospace, and semiconductor manufacturing. Yet 85 % of America’s tungsten supply is imported, predominantly from China, which controls roughly 80–85 % of global output.
In 2024, the U.S. government imposed a 25 % tariff on Chinese tungsten products and signaled that the Department of Defense will cease procuring Chinese or Russian-sourced tungsten by 2027. This policy direction gives domestic developers like Patriot a rare window of opportunity — and a clear deadline.
“The MEGA Project represents a turning point for America’s critical-mineral independence,” said Anthony Paterson, Patriot’s president. “We’re proving that large-scale, U.S.-based projects can once again compete globally. But to secure that future, the government must move with the same urgency the market demands.”
MEGA Project Overview: Infrastructure and Resource Potential
The TRS describes near-surface mineralization with potential for open-pit development and low stripping ratios — a combination that supports rapid, low-cost advancement. The project area has year-round road access, existing grid power, and a skilled local workforce in northern Nevada’s mature mining corridor.
Patriot reports that engineering, permitting, and federal-program engagement are already under way, with a Pre-Feasibility Study targeted for completion within 12–18 months.
If advanced to production, MEGA could deliver the first significant domestic tungsten concentrate in over a decade — helping offset U.S. reliance on foreign suppliers and aligning with the Defense Production Act’s critical-mineral objectives.

Global Tungsten Market: Prices, Demand, and Project Benchmarks
Global tungsten prices have remained firm through 2025. Tungsten bar FOB prices averaged USD 95–97/kg, while Chinese scheelite concentrate hovered near RMB 284,000/ton, only 1 % off multi-year highs
Demand drivers remain robust: precision machining, renewable-energy systems, and defense technologies continue to tighten supply. Analysts project a compound annual growth rate near 7.9 % through 2032, supported by western re-industrialization efforts.
In this context, Patriot’s filing places MEGA alongside leading global tungsten projects such as Fireweed Metals’ Mactung (Yukon) and W Resources’ La Parrilla (Spain) — but as the first large-scale tungsten deposit under full U.S. SEC compliance, it offers distinct capital-market advantages.
Qualified Persons and Reporting Compliance
The TRS was authored by SRK Consulting (U.S.) Inc. under Regulation S-K 1300 and reviewed by Matthew Hastings (M.Sc, P.Geo, MAusIMM (CP)) of SRK. Brodie Sutherland, P.Geo, Patriot’s CEO, acts as Qualified Person per NI 43-101 and approved the technical disclosure.
This dual reporting alignment — SEC S-K 1300 for U.S. investors and NI 43-101 for Canadian standards — enhances transparency and comparability across markets, a feature increasingly valued by institutional capital.
Skillings Analysis
- Capital Markets Signal: Patriot’s S-K 1300 filing formalizes tungsten’s arrival as an investable, large-cap-ready critical mineral within U.S. regulatory frameworks.
- Strategic Leverage: With a 2027 procurement cutoff looming, MEGA’s scale and jurisdiction make it a likely candidate for defense or DOE strategic funding.
- Execution Risk: Success will hinge on metallurgical performance and downstream partnerships; without proven recoveries and domestic refining capacity, even world-class resources can stall.
Outlook: A New Tungsten Frontier for 2026
As 2025 closes, Patriot is entering a pivotal phase — translating paper resources into project economics. Expect metallurgical and engineering updates by mid-2026, potentially followed by feasibility financing or offtake negotiations.
For the wider industry, MEGA’s emergence may catalyze renewed exploration across the American Cordillera, from Idaho to New Mexico. Should Patriot advance toward construction, it could redefine tungsten’s strategic footprint in the United States — and mark the first serious challenge to China’s decades-long dominance.
