Hill manganese project in Botswana, outlining a project that is operationally leaner yet significantly more capital-intensive than previous projections. The study, published on May 28, 2026, confirms the technical viability of producing high-purity manganese sulphate monohydrate (HPMSM) for the global electric vehicle (EV) battery market, but also underscores the inflationary challenges facing the development of new critical mineral supply chains outside China.

By focusing on the most efficient processing routes for HPMSM and high-purity manganese oxide (HPMO), Giyani aims to maximize margins in a market that increasingly rewards purity and ESG credentials over scale alone.
Battery-Grade Manganese for the Western Supply Chain
The K. Hill project is strategically positioned to serve the North American and European EV markets. As Western nations move to decouple their critical mineral supply chains from China: which currently dominates nearly 90% of global high-purity manganese refining: projects like K. Hill, which requires less intensive processing than carbonate-based ores found elsewhere.
