HOUSTON, B.C. : Vizsla Copper Corp. (TSXV: VCU) announced Wednesday that it has intersected substantial intervals of high-grade copper-molybdenum porphyry mineralization at its Thira discovery, part of the larger Poplar Project in central British Columbia.
The Phase 1 drill results confirm that the Thira target represents a significant new porphyry center, with continuous mineralization encountered from near-surface to depths exceeding 600 meters. The findings come as the industry continues to search for domestic sources of critical minerals to support the global energy transition.
Drill Results Detail Significant Mineralization
The latest results are highlighted by hole TH26-154, located at the northern extent of the Thira zone. The hole returned 472.8 meters grading 0.40% copper equivalent (CuEq) starting from just 13.2 meters downhole. Within this broad interval, the company identified a higher-grade core of 304.8 meters grading 0.48% CuEq and a 45.0-meter section grading 0.58% CuEq.
The mineralization at Thira is characterized by stockwork-controlled copper and molybdenum hosted within multiple phases of monzonite intrusions and surrounding volcaniclastic rocks. According to the company, the copper equivalent values are primarily driven by copper, with additional contributions from molybdenum, silver, and minor gold.
“The consistency of the grades over these lengths suggests a robust hydrothermal system,” said an industry analyst familiar with the project. “Hitting these kinds of widths at 0.4% to 0.5% copper equivalent near surface is a strong indicator of the project’s potential scale.”
Other notable results from the Phase 1 program include:
- Hole TH26-151: 675.2 meters of 0.40% CuEq from 31.8 meters downhole, including a 435.0-meter interval of 0.49% CuEq.
- Hole TH26-148: 483.0 meters of 0.40% CuEq from 9.0 meters downhole, including 205.5 meters of 0.50% CuEq.

Expanding the Porphyry Footprint
The 2026 drilling program has successfully expanded the known mineralized footprint at Thira to approximately 800 meters by 900 meters. Crucially, Vizsla Copper reports that the system remains open in all directions and at depth.
The discovery at Thira is a relatively recent development, stemming from initial discovery hole TH25-138 drilled in 2025. That hole returned 499.3 meters of 0.39% CuEq, signaling the presence of a previously unknown porphyry center roughly 10 kilometers south of the main Poplar copper-gold deposit.
The company’s geological team has noted that the Thira discovery lies within a broad alteration corridor that extends beyond the currently drilled area. The presence of surface mineralization in road cuts has facilitated rapid targeting and exploration.
Infrastructure Advantage in Central B.C.
One of the primary drivers for the Thira project’s economic potential is its proximity to existing mining technology and logistical infrastructure. Unlike many remote northern Canadian discoveries, the Poplar Project is situated in a well-established mining district.
The project is bisected by a 138 kV hydroelectric transmission line, which significantly reduces the capital requirements for future power delivery. Furthermore, a major power-carrying haul road, currently used by Imperial Metals for the Huckleberry copper mine, runs directly across the property.

Logistically, the project is approximately 88 kilometers from the railhead at Houston, B.C. From Houston, the rail line connects to the deep-water port at Prince Rupert, located roughly 400 kilometers away. This existing rail and port infrastructure is critical for the potential export of copper concentrates to international markets.
| Infrastructure Feature | Description | Proximity/Status |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 138 kV Hydroelectric Line | Bisects Property |
| Access | All-weather Haul Road | On-site |
| Rail | Houston Railhead | 88 km |
| Port | Prince Rupert Deep-water | 400 km by Rail |
| Nearby Mine | Huckleberry (Imperial Metals) | 35-38 km |
Strategic Context for Copper Supply
The success at Thira comes at a time when the global copper supply deficit is a growing concern for industrial manufacturers and energy firms. Porphyry deposits, while often lower grade than vein-hosted deposits, provide the massive scale required to meet global demand for electrification.
British Columbia remains a Tier-1 jurisdiction for copper mining, hosting several of Canada’s largest producing mines. The “Golden Triangle” and the central Quesnel Trough, where Poplar is located, continue to be focal points for mining M&A deals.

Next Steps at Thira
Vizsla Copper has indicated that it will transition into an aggressive follow-up program consisting of approximately 8,000 meters across 16 holes. This next phase of drilling will focus on three primary objectives:
- System Expansion: Testing the limits of the 800m x 900m footprint, particularly to the north and east.
- Depth Extensions: Determining the vertical extent of the high-grade monzonite-hosted core.
- Infill Drilling: Increasing the drill density to better understand the continuity of the higher-grade (>0.5% CuEq) zones.
The company is also conducting geophysical surveys to identify potential “blind” extensions of the system that may be covered by thin glacial till.
Market Implications
For investors and analysts, the results at Thira provide a data point for the valuation of early-stage exploration companies in a rising copper price environment. While the gold price forecast often dominates resource headlines, the strategic importance of copper-molybdenum porphyries is increasingly reflected in the premiums paid by major miners for junior developers.

Skillings Mining Intelligence: Daily Market Snapshot
As of the close of markets on July 21, 2026, the base metals sector showed resilience amid fluctuating energy costs.
| Commodity | Current Price (USD) | 24h Change | 2026 YTD |
