In a significant move to bolster investment in the solid minerals sector, the Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled the Nigerian Minerals Resource Decision Support System (DSS). This comprehensive software platform is designed to serve as a one-stop shop for investors seeking credible and decisive information on Nigeria’s mineral resources, facilities, and infrastructure. The unveiling ceremony was conducted by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, in Abuja on Tuesday.
A Game-Changing Platform
The DSS platform represents a cornerstone of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda aimed at revitalizing the solid minerals sector and boosting Nigeria’s economic profile. Minister Dele Alake emphasized that the software is not just a tool but a strategic marketing innovation that leverages technology to attract investor interest by cutting the costs associated with investment research.
“What we are here to inaugurate today is a game changer. It is the most investor-friendly magnet that has ever happened in this industry. It seeks to cut the cost of investment research,” Alake stated during the launch.

Features and Benefits of the DSS
The DSS platform is designed to be highly interactive, providing users with detailed data on the geology, hydrology, and urban geography pertinent to the mining business. It utilizes electronic diagrams and maps to enable investors to project their mining investments, plan budgets, and commence operations efficiently. This transparency and accessibility are intended to enhance the ease of doing business in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
Supporting Economic Diversification
Nigeria is determined to diversify its economy, particularly in light of the global shift towards energy transition which has increased the demand for critical minerals that Nigeria possesses in commercial quantities. Minister Alake noted that Nigeria’s mineral resources have the potential to surpass oil in generating Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the country.
“Our mineral resources have the potential of superseding oil in generating Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the country,” he asserted.
Government Initiatives and Policies
Since the inception of the Tinubu administration, the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has embarked on aggressive marketing campaigns to attract investors to the sector, yielding positive outcomes. These efforts include the introduction of policies and initiatives aimed at sanitizing the sector through both coercive and persuasive measures.
One of the key coercive measures is the establishment of the Mining Marshal Corp, which has been deployed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to secure the mining environment and combat illegal mining activities.
On the persuasive front, the government has focused on formalizing artisanal and illegal miners into cooperatives, resulting in the creation of over 150 cooperatives. This initiative aims to integrate these miners into the formal economy, thereby enhancing productivity and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Encouragement from Government Officials
In his goodwill message, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, highlighted the benefits of the newly unveiled portal for all Nigerians. He urged prospective investors to leverage this platform to explore the abundant investment opportunities in Nigeria’s mineral resources sector.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Mary Ogbe, also encouraged Nigerians to focus on marketing the country’s mineral resources and to remain patient in achieving the projected outcomes. She acknowledged that every country faces challenges but emphasized the importance of perseverance and strategic planning.
The launch of the Nigerian Minerals Resource Decision Support System (DSS) marks a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s solid minerals sector. By providing a comprehensive, transparent, and accessible platform for investors, the DSS is set to transform the landscape of mineral resource investment in Nigeria. This initiative not only aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to revamp the sector but also positions Nigeria to capitalize on the growing global demand for critical minerals, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic diversification and growth.
As the world increasingly turns to sustainable energy solutions, the demand for minerals crucial to these technologies will continue to rise. Nigeria’s proactive approach in leveraging technological innovations to attract investment in its mineral resources sector demonstrates a forward-thinking strategy that could place the country at the forefront of the global mining industry. With the DSS, Nigeria is not just opening its doors to investors but is also showcasing its commitment to transparency, sustainability, and economic development.
