The delivery also encompasses TankCell® mechanical flotation cells, high-intensity Concorde Cell™ units, and HRT thickeners featuring the Reactorwell™ feed system. For classification, Metso will supply MHC hydrocyclones, while Larox® PF60 and FFP 3512 filters will be delivered for concentrate and tailings filtration. Additionally, Metso’s PSI500i particle size analyzer and Courier® 6X SL online elemental analyzer will support continuous optimization of grinding and flotation processes, enhancing recovery and reducing waste.
MDO’s Chief Executive Officer, Mattar Al Badi, stated: “The Mazoon copper project spans an area of 20 km² and is poised to become the largest integrated copper concentrate production facility in Oman. This partnership represents a key milestone for MDO, strengthening our global partnerships. We are committed to adopting cutting-edge technologies that enhance the sustainability and efficiency of our mining and processing operations. Furthermore, we are pleased to collaborate with Metso, a trusted leader in process equipment supply.”
The Mazoon Copper Project, a flagship initiative of Oman’s mining sector, includes five open-pit mines with reserves estimated at 22.9 million tons of copper ore. Central to this project is a state-of-the-art ore processing plant, covering 56,000 square meters, with an annual processing capacity of 2.5 million tons of copper ore. The facility is designed to produce 115,000 tons of copper concentrate annually, achieving a purity of 21.5%. This transformative project underscores MDO’s commitment to advancing Oman’s mining industry and aligns with the country’s broader economic diversification strategy, setting a new standard for sustainable resource development.
“As a leading supplier of process technology and services to copper and gold plants worldwide, Metso is thrilled to collaborate as a strategic partner with Mazoon Mining on this greenfield project. A substantial portion of the products included in the agreement is part of our Metso Plus offering,” says Piia Karhu, President, Minerals at Metso.
