FireFox Gold Corp. has identified a new gold-bearing zone at its Mustajärvi project in Finnish Lapland, reporting an intersection of 21.0 metres grading 4.13 grams per tonne gold from a drill hole located more than 650 metres from previous drilling.
The Lammas Zone result, announced Sept. 16, represents a significant step-out from the established mineralized areas at Mustajärvi. It expands the known exploration footprint and supports FireFox’s interpretation that the project may contain several mineralized centres along a broader structural corridor.
The result came from hole 26MJ032, which intersected the main interval between 114 and 135 metres downhole. The company also reported a second interval of 4.2 metres at 3.41 g/t gold from 138 metres, along with narrower mineralized intervals at depth.
FireFox cautioned that the Lammas discovery remains at an early exploration stage. Three reconnaissance holes have been completed in the area, but assays from two of those holes were still pending in the company’s announcement.
A genuine step-out discovery
Lammas is located roughly 750 to 950 metres east-southeast of the Mustajärvi East Zone and more than 650 metres from previous drilling. That distance is important because the result is not simply an infill intercept designed to confirm already-defined mineralization.
Instead, the hole tested a relatively distant target within the broader Mustajärvi structural setting. The company interprets Lammas as a splay structure associated with the Mustajärvi Shear Zone, a major geological feature that controls much of the known mineralization at the project.
A wide interval at moderate-to-high grade in a new area can materially change how an exploration program is designed. FireFox may now need to test whether Lammas has continuity along strike, whether the mineralization extends down plunge, and whether it connects with the East, Northeast or Central zones.

The main intercept included a higher-grade section of 1.0 metre at 21.6 g/t gold. The second interval included 1.0 metre at 7.22 g/t gold, according to the reported results.
Mustajärvi’s geological setting
Mustajärvi covers approximately 12 square kilometres in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt, about 17 kilometres east of the town of Kittilä. The project sits in a region known for Paleoproterozoic volcanic and sedimentary rocks that have been affected by multiple deformation events.
FireFox describes the mineralization as an orogenic gold system associated with quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins and pyrite. The company’s geological model focuses on structural zones where movement along the Mustajärvi Shear Zone created areas of dilation, allowing gold-bearing fluids to circulate and deposit mineralization.
The company’s Mustajärvi project overview says gold-bearing drill intercepts now extend across more than 2.1 kilometres. Previous drilling has outlined Central, Northeast and East target areas, with mineralization remaining open along strike and at depth.

The Lammas result therefore adds a new data point outside the better-known mineralized trend. It may indicate that the project contains parallel structures or separate mineralized centres rather than a single continuous zone.
That interpretation remains untested. A single discovery hole cannot establish the geometry, average grade, true width or continuity of a deposit. Those questions will require additional drilling and geological modelling.
A step toward a resource estimate
FireFox’s 2025–26 program includes more than 10,000 metres of drilling and is intended to support an initial mineral resource estimate for Mustajärvi. The company has indicated that it is targeting an initial resource estimate in early 2027.
The Lammas discovery could add a new area to that work, but the timing and inclusion of the zone will depend on follow-up assays and drilling results. The two additional reconnaissance holes at Lammas are particularly important because they may show whether the result from hole 26MJ032 can be repeated nearby.
The next technical steps are likely to include:
- Assaying the remaining Lammas reconnaissance holes.
- Drilling along strike to test the zone’s lateral continuity.
- Drilling beneath the discovery hole to assess depth potential.
- Establishing the true thickness and orientation of the mineralization.
- Determining whether Lammas can be integrated into a broader resource model.
- Evaluating metallurgy, geometry, mining conditions and potential processing routes.
The distinction between downhole interval and true width will also become more important as the structural model develops. Reported drill lengths describe the length of mineralization encountered by the hole; they do not necessarily represent the deposit’s actual thickness.
Why Finland provides a different development backdrop
Mustajärvi’s location gives the project an infrastructure profile that differs from many exploration assets in remote or emerging mining districts.
The project is crossed by a paved national highway and a high-voltage power line. Kittilä, the nearest major service centre, is connected by road and air, while the broader region has an established mining workforce and operating mines.
The Central Lapland Greenstone Belt hosts Agnico Eagle’s Kittilä gold mine, one of Europe’s largest gold operations, as well as Boliden’s Kevitsa nickel-copper mine. Those operations demonstrate that large-scale mining, logistics and processing can function in the region’s sub-Arctic conditions.

Finland is also generally regarded as one of Europe’s more established mining jurisdictions, with developed roads, grid power, regional airports and downstream processing infrastructure. The country’s regulatory system is strict, but its permitting framework is comparatively transparent and supported by established environmental and administrative processes.
That does not eliminate project risk. A mine would still require exploration success, environmental studies, community engagement, permits, financing, construction and a viable economic case. Permitting for a full-scale operation can take years, particularly where environmental or land-use issues are complex.
The advantage is that a successful discovery in Finland may not face the same infrastructure gap as a comparable discovery in a remote district without roads, power or nearby processing capacity.
Strategic relevance to European supply
The project also sits within a wider European effort to strengthen domestic mineral supply. Under the European Union’s Critical Raw Materials Act, the bloc has set a benchmark of meeting 10% of annual strategic raw-material consumption through extraction within the EU by 2030, alongside targets for processing, recycling and supply diversification.
Gold is not generally treated in the same way as battery and technology metals under the strategic raw-material framework. However, the policy has increased attention on European mining capacity, permitting systems and supply-chain resilience more broadly.
Finland’s existing mining base, power system and industrial infrastructure make the country an important part of that discussion. For gold explorers such as FireFox, the same jurisdictional features can reduce some of the practical barriers between discovery and development, even though they do not guarantee economic viability.

What the Lammas result means
The Lammas Zone changes the exploration story at Mustajärvi more than it changes the project’s development status.
The 21.0-metre intercept at 4.13 g/t gold is material because it combines meaningful width with a location more than 650 metres from earlier drilling. It broadens the known footprint and raises the possibility that multiple mineralized centres may exist across the property.
The result does not yet establish a resource, mine plan or economic project. FireFox still needs to demonstrate continuity, define the zone’s geometry, complete additional drilling and determine whether the mineralization can support a coherent resource estimate.
For now, the key question is whether Lammas is an isolated discovery or the first confirmed part of a larger parallel system. Assays from the remaining holes and the company’s next phase of drilling should provide the first indication.
