Major Manganese Discovery in a Key Mining Region
The Hendeka project has been the focus of an intensive exploration campaign conducted by Advanced Energy Fuels (AEF), which holds an option to acquire the project from Trek Metals. The program involved prospect-scale geological mapping and surface rock chip sampling, yielding 302 samples that confirm the potential for a large-scale manganese deposit.
“We are pleased to report strong exploration results at the Hendeka project, with the Pearana prospect emerging as the primary exploration target,” said Trek CEO Derek Marshall.
Beyond Pearana, the company identified additional high-grade manganese mineralization at three more prospects—Pothole, Sharks Fin, and Pearana South—positioning Hendeka as a prospective manganese-rich corridor.
High-Grade Assays Reinforce Manganese Discovery Potential
Among the most notable results:
- Pearana prospect: Assays exceeding 30% manganese across a 3.5 km strike.
- Pothole prospect: The highest-grade assay recorded at 57% manganese across a 1 km north-northwest/south-southeast striking zone.
- Sharks Fin prospect: Rock chip samples grading up to 32.6% manganese.
- Pearana South target: Assays reaching 35% manganese, with 10 samples exceeding 20%.
These promising assay results solidify Pearana’s status as the primary manganese target, with Trek expecting the prospect to transition to a granted status soon—clearing the way for drilling operations.
Strategic Importance of Trek Metals’ Manganese Discovery
Manganese is a critical mineral for steel production, battery cathodes for electric vehicles, and renewable energy storage. The high-grade nature of Trek’s manganese discovery aligns with increasing interest from industrial buyers seeking stable supplies beyond traditional producers such as South Africa and Gabon.
Trek Metals CEO Derek Marshall emphasized the strategic importance of this discovery, especially in relation to the nearby Contact deposit, located 30 km south of Pearana.
“Contact remains the focus, and Trek looks forward to updating the market on numerous initiatives currently being advanced by AEF,” Marshall stated.
This new manganese discovery could significantly enhance Trek’s existing resource base, positioning Hendeka as a key player in Australia’s expanding manganese sector.
