The deficit supports prices, but does not guarantee a rally
The central bullish argument for silver remains the gap between annual demand and available supply. The Silver Institute expects the market to remain in deficit in 2026 even after total supply increases to approximately 1.05 billion ounces.
That shortfall follows several years of structural deficits. The market has increasingly relied on above-ground inventories to meet demand, making prices more sensitive to disruptions in mine output, refining capacity, trade flows and investment demand.
