DURANGO, Mexico : Silver Storm Mining Ltd. (TSX.V: SVRS) has authorized a major expansion of its 2026 underground exploration program at the La Parrilla Silver Mine Complex, signaling increased confidence in the site’s resource growth potential.
The company announced Thursday it will add 9,000 meters to its current drilling campaign, bringing the total planned distance to 15,000 meters. The decision follows a series of high-grade intercepts, most notably a 441 g/t silver equivalent (AgEq) strike over a 21.72-meter interval at the C535 Zone.
The expansion marks a pivot for Silver Storm as it moves from reconnaissance drilling toward a concerted effort to extend indicated resources. By nearly tripling the original 6,000-meter program initiated earlier this year, the company is positioning La Parrilla for a potential production restart evaluation.
High-Grade Intercepts Drive Expansion
The catalyst for the expanded budget was hole IDP-QB-26-021, drilled within the Quebradillas mine. The hole returned 441 g/t AgEq over 21.72 meters, which includes a higher-grade core of 771 g/t AgEq over 9.27 meters.
Geological teams at the site noted that the intercept occurred within the C535 Zone, a structure that appears to be gaining width and grade at depth. This result, combined with previous success at the adjacent C550 Zone, suggests a larger mineralized system than previously modeled by former operators.
“These results validate our geological model,” said Greg Johnson, President and CEO of Silver Storm. “The thickness and grade of the mineralization at C535 and C550 are exceptional. Doubling down on this program allows us to aggressively pursue these zones while they remain open.”
Geological Focus: The C550 and C535 Zones
The Quebradillas portion of the La Parrilla complex has historically been a reliable producer, but recent exploration indicates untapped potential in its deeper reaches. The C550 Zone has become a primary target for the technical team. Earlier results from this area included 847 g/t AgEq over 4.15 meters, demonstrating the high-tenor nature of the ore.
The current 15,000-meter campaign aims to:
- Infill Drilling: Bridge the gap between historical data and modern intercepts to upgrade “Inferred” resources to the “Indicated” category.
- Step-Out Drilling: Test the lateral and vertical limits of the C550 and C535 structures.
- New Target Identification: Evaluate sub-parallel structures identified through recent underground mapping.
The use of underground drilling rigs allows Silver Storm to target these deep structures with shorter holes and higher precision compared to surface-based campaigns. This operational efficiency is a key pillar of the company’s strategy to lower the cost per ounce discovered.

Infrastructure and Operational Readiness
The La Parrilla Silver Mine Complex is a fully permitted, past-producing facility located in the heart of Mexico’s silver belt. Silver Storm acquired the asset from First Majestic Silver in 2023, inheriting a massive infrastructure footprint that includes a 2,000 tonne-per-day processing plant.
The complex consists of five underground mines: Quebradillas, Rosarios, San Marcos, San Nicolas, and Vacas: and an open pit. While the facility is currently on care and maintenance, the level of infrastructure in place significantly reduces the capital requirements for a restart.
“Having a mill and tailings facility already on-site changes the economics of every drill hole,” noted a senior analyst at Skillings Mining Review. “Silver Storm isn’t just looking for rocks; they are looking for the feed that will justify flipping the switch on a 2,000 tpd plant.”
Recent upgrades in mining technology, such as autonomous haulage systems, have changed the ROI reality for mid-tier producers. While La Parrilla remains a conventional underground operation, the integration of modern data analytics in the exploration phase is already yielding results.

The Mexican Silver Landscape in 2026
Mexico remains the world’s leading producer of silver, but the industry has faced headwinds ranging from regulatory shifts to aging assets. Silver Storm’s aggressive expansion at La Parrilla comes at a time when mining stocks to watch are increasingly those with brownfield expansion potential rather than riskier greenfield projects.
The Durango region provides a stable operating environment with a skilled local workforce and established supply chains. By focusing on Quebradillas, Silver Storm is leveraging a known geological environment where historical production provides a roadmap for future extraction.
Investors are keeping a close eye on silver prices, which have seen sustained support due to industrial demand from the solar and electronics sectors. As a “pure-play” silver story, Silver Storm’s success at La Parrilla could make it a standout in a market hungry for high-grade assets.

Strategic Outlook: Beyond the 15,000 Meters
With the drilling program now expanded, Silver Storm expects a steady flow of assay results throughout the remainder of 2026. These results will form the basis of an updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE), which is anticipated in late 2026 or early 2027.
The technical team is also evaluating the San Nicolas zone, where recent drilling extended mineralization at depth. The goal is to build a multi-mine production profile that can supply the 2,000 tpd mill with consistent, high-grade feed.
“The expansion to 15,000 meters is a clear signal that the company sees a path to production,” said an industry consultant. “You don’t spend that kind of money on underground drilling unless the geology is talking to you.”
